CARDIOVASCULAR WELLNESS SCREENING

Cardiovascular Wellness Screening

Improving awareness of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease

A comprehensive cardiovascular/pulmonary screen is an important component of your health care plan.

Did you know . . .

  • This year 1 million Americans will die of heart disease - 1 every 33 seconds.
  • One in three Americans will have one or more types of Cardiovascular Disease.
  • Each year about 795,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke.
  • On average, every 40 seconds someone in the U.S. has a stroke.
  • Approximately 40 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with sleep disorder.

The screening process available at the Jordan-Waters Heart Center is a fast, affordable, noninvasive screen that assists in identifying participants risk for developing future disease or life threatening health problems. The information provides you and your doctor with measurable insight into the state of your health. Early identification of disease allows your physician time to administer treatment prior to experiencing a medical emergency.

Screenings

Carotid Artery Scan
This painless test consists of a small ultrasound probe that is held to the neck. High frequency sound waves bounce off of blood cells and blood vessels to show blood flow and problems with the structure of blood vessels.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasound
This painless test consists of a small ultrasound probe that is moved across the abdomen to detect an abnormally large aorta.

Arm Ankle Index Measurement for PAD
This painless test uses a small ultrasound device to measure blood pressure in arms and legs.

Atrial Fibrillation Heart Screen
This painless test consists of leads attached to chest to detect irregular heart rhythm.

Epworth Sleepiness Screening
This is a questionnaire that rates the probability of falling asleep on a scale of increasing probability from 0 to 3 in eight different situations. It is useful to help diagnose sleeping disorders.

Spirometry
Spirometry is the most common of the Pulmonary  Function Tests (PFTs), measuring lung function. Patient is asked to take the deepest breath they can, and then exhale into the sensor as hard as possible, for as long as possible.

Before the Screening

Prior to your screening, you need to fast for 6 hours. Make sure that the meal you have prior to the screening is light and do not eat gassy foods, such as beans, broccoli, cabbage, whole wheat products, dairy and carbonated products.
Wear a comfortable two piece outfit to the screening.
Take any medications that are prescribed.

After the Screening

You will receive a detailed report in 7 - 10 days with the results of these tests.
Preventative screenings are not meant to diagnose but can certainly indicate the presence of a possible problem. You are encouraged to keep preventative screenings as part of your health regimen and provide your family physician with a copy of your results.
